The Greene County boys basketball season ended Monday, Feb. 24, in Glenwood when the home team won the first round of Class 3A Substate 8 tourney play 75-40.
Everyone in the building was cheering for the Rams! The Glenwood Rams took an 18-10 first period lead over the Greene County Rams, building their advantage to 38-24 at halftime. Glenwood held GC to just eight points in each of the second half quarters, taking a 60-32 lead in the third and winning 75-40.
Carter Morton led his team with 16 points and six rebounds. Jackson Morton added six and Bryce Stalder, five.
GC struggled to connect behind the arc, making just four of 22 for 18 percent. They hit eight of 30 two-pointers for 27 percent. They were strong at the charity stripe with 12 of 16 attempts for 75 percent. The Rams brought down 25 rebounds on the night.
The entire bench saw some playing time on the floor. Playing their last game for Greene County were seniors Nick Breon, Carter Morton, Cael Fisher, Caden Lowmiller and Skylar Ripperger. Four of the five were starters. Coach Chris Nelson has a strong group of underclassmen on which to build next season.
“We feel we’ve got what is a very good corps coming back,” stated Nelson. “We have guys, I would say, who are athletic, and not just athletes who can play basketball.”
Juniors Zach Goff and Jaxon Warnke gained good experience from their minutes on the floor this season, along with sophomores Max Riley, Jackson Morton and Caden Telleen and freshmen Richard Daugherty and Jesse Miller.
